As the old adage goes, "never meet your heroes", advice Lost in Translation star Scarlett Johansson failed to heed when meeting Patrick Swayze.
The 20-year-old US actress, who is currently starring opposite Ewan McGregor in sci-fi adventure The Island, approached the star of Point Break and Ghost at a party.
She went to congratulate the actor for his performance in eighties chick-hit Dirty Dancing, but apparently received a less than enthusiastic response.
"I actually ran up to Patrick at a party, and said, 'Hi, it's so nice to meet you. I just wanted you to know I've really liked Dirty Dancing since I was a little girl.'," recalled the young actress.
According to Johansson, Swayze merely muttered, "that was a long time ago", in reply.
Having said this, it is 18 years since the nearly 53-year-old Swayze starred as smouldering dance instructor Johnny Castle, so he was not entirely wrong in his retort to the starstruck Scarlett.
However, the Girl With a Pearl Earring star was distraught after the encounter, claiming she "shrunk into a corner, cried and went home".
Who said nobody leaves baby in the corner?
I hate Patrick Swayze and that shit fest called Dirty Dancing. I now hate Scarlett Johansson for loving Dirty Dancing.
